The NASA Space Shuttle was a reusable spacecraft system that was used for space exploration from 1981 to 2011. It was the first reusable spacecraft system to be used for space exploration and was designed to carry astronauts and cargo into low Earth orbit and back. The Space Shuttle was composed of a reusable orbiter, two solid rocket boosters, and an external fuel tank. The orbiter was the main component of the Space Shuttle and was used to transport astronauts and cargo into space. The solid rocket boosters provided the initial thrust to launch the Space Shuttle into orbit and were jettisoned after use. The external fuel tank provided fuel to the Space Shuttle during its mission and was jettisoned after use. The Space Shuttle was used for a variety of missions, including the deployment of satellites, the repair and maintenance of the Hubble Space Telescope, and the construction of the International Space Station. The Space Shuttle was retired in 2011 after completing 135 missions.
