The Apollo mission was a series of spaceflight missions conducted by NASA between 1961 and 1972. The program was the third human spaceflight program undertaken by NASA, following the Mercury and Gemini programs. The Apollo program was designed to land humans on the Moon and bring them safely back to Earth. The Apollo 11 mission, which was the first mission to land humans on the Moon, was launched on July 16, 1969. The mission was a success, and Neil Armstrong and Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin became the first humans to walk on the Moon.
